ENDORSED BY MA ATTORNEY GENERAL MAURA HEALEY
Your Progressive Leader On Beacon Hill
Meet Dave
Dave Rogers is equipped with years of public service experience ranging from the U.S. Capitol, White House, and Criminal Division of the Environmental Protection Agency, previous work as an economic consultant, and Law Degree from American University. With these skills, and almost two decades of legal practice at one of Boston’s leading firms, Dave has served his community as their Representative for four terms.
Dave Rogers’ service in the State House has led him to a leadership position, where he now serves as Chair of the House Committee on Cannabis Policy. He is also a member of the MBTA Caucus, and the Steering Committee of the Progressive Caucus in the House, where he plays a role in both shaping public policy and formulating legislative strategy to help advance those policy goals.
Why I’m Running
Since 2012, it has been a great honor to represent the communities of Arlington, Belmont, and Cambridge. I am excited to announce that I am seeking another term to represent the 24th Middlesex District!
Given our corrupt and disastrous federal Administration, the gridlock in national politics has never been worse. But at the State House, we have been getting things done - big things. In just the last couple of sessions – and with the collaboration and support of so many of you – I have been working to bring a remarkable legislative agenda to fruition; an agenda that is on the leading edge of the fight for social and economic justice. Just a few of these landmark accomplishments include:
-A Sweeping Criminal Justice Reform Law
-A Breakthrough Women’s Pay Equity Law
-Significant Clean Energy Incentives
-Dramatically Increased Funding to Education
And this is only a small sampling of the broad-based policy agenda that is now the law here in the Commonwealth. All of these progressive reforms have taken place while the state enjoys its highest bond rating in history and our regional economy thrives. And yet there is more to do.
This election, Massachusetts faces serious decisions about our future and the issues we must address. Among those, none are more important than standing up for working families, improving our transportation systems, improving environmental protection and addressing climate change, and protecting and strengthening the civil rights and liberties of every member of our communities.
I am excited to begin the process towards seeking another term as your Representative, and look forward to continuing to serve the Arlington, Belmont, and Cambridge communities!
Let’s make a difference.
Dave on the Issues
Climate Protection
Successfully pushed for major increases in funding for environmental protection. Sponsor of major multi-state offshore wind procurement, which will reduce emissions, create jobs, and lower energy costs.
Civil Rights & Liberties
Filed legislation endorsed by the Boston Globe and the Chief Justice of our state’s supreme court to guarantee a right to low income tenants facing eviction. Also worked with ACLU to develop legislation to freeze the use of biometric surveillance technology.
Economic Justice
Authored and passed the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, a vital policy breakthrough providing a new civil right for pregnant workers that will protect them from workplace discrimination.
Social Justice
Played a major role in creating sweeping criminal justice reform that is now hailed as a model for how to improve justice systems across the country by reducing or eliminating mandatory minimums, reducing the use of solitary confinement, and codifying important changes to the bail system to make it so that low-income defendants aren’t unfairly imprisoned pre-trial.
“Incredible climate champion”
Senator Markey describing Dave Rogers’ work on climate issues at the state level, during the Senator’s announcement of the Green New Deal in Massachusetts.
We are living through an era of transformational change in which both government and the larger society are grappling with great challenges. But it is important to remember this: those great challenges also present enormous opportunities. While there is some cynicism toward government, particularly given recent dysfunction in Washington, DC, I want my constituents to know that — every single day working in state legislature — I see how it can be a positive force, helping people in need and moving our society forward. I also see that no public official can be successful without the sustained engagement of his or her constituents, so I hope to continue to build on the countless wonderful relationships I have developed.
Please know that your voice really does matter greatly and I hope you will use this website and other avenues to communicate with me and play the most important role of all in our democracy — active citizen.
